One of Russia’s most prominent officials has rejected, in vulgar terms, Ukraine’s proposal for a 30-day ceasefire beginning Monday.

Dmitry Medvedev, the former president of Russia and the current deputy head of the National Security Council, panned the plan in a post on X, writing in English that its authors could “shove these peace plans up your pangender arses!”

The ceasefire proposal was made as Germany’s Friedrich Merz, France’s Emmanuel Macron, the UK’s Keir Starmer and Poland’s Donald Tusk visited Kiev on Saturday for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The leaders also warned that sanctions would follow if Russia rejected the plan.

“Macron, Merz, Starmer, and Tusk were supposed to discuss peace in Kiev. Instead, they are blurting out threats against Russia,” Medvedev, who is known for his frequent use of inflammatory language, wrote.

Separately, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said before the ultimatum was issued that Russia would not be swayed by sanctions. He argued that any ceasefire must not allow Kiev to reposition its forces and named a halt to Western arms deliveries as a prerequisite for Moscow to consider the 30-day truce.
